Book 5 – Clarissa’s Time

September 11, 2012 – I won’t be starting Clarissa’s Time for over a year. It’s the final book in the series, and may be my NaNoWriMo project for 2013. The only tidbit of information I have for this book at this time is Lady Clarissa Conor, the oldest daughter of Logan and Rachel Conor, the Duke and Duchess of Muileach in Scotland, will marry Damian Gerard Grayson, the oldest son of Richard and Janelle Grayson, of Lake Galloway, New Hampshire, USA.

I’m not even sure the wedding will take place in this book … it may be in an earlier book. I’ll update this page from time to time as the timeline gels or as ideas for the book start to come together (they’re largely dependent on what happens in the earlier books). Please stop by and check on what’s happening with this book.

February 10, 2013 – Clarissa’s Time will be my 2013 NaNoWriMo Project.  With everything else in my I still haven’t had much time to think about the story that will be Clarissa’s Time besides the basic premise. My plan is for Clarissa’s Time to be published in late 2015 or early 2016.

December 9, 2013 – WHEW!  Fall 2013 was, for me, very busy.  In October, I had a couple of health issues – injuries, not illness – which ran over into NaNoWriMo 2013.  The end result was I was behind on finishing Adelle’s Time before NaNo, and didn’t get to think much about Clarissa’s Time before it was time to start inputting words into the file.

I wanted to get Adelle’s Time to the editor before I started Clarissa’s Time, but didn’t make it, so I sent it to him without the last chapter. When I started Clarissa’s Time, I had only 2 facts … first, there was to be a wedding between Lady Clarissa Leslie Conor and Damian Gerard Grayson, and in the days just before I started NaNo,  I hit on a what I think is a unique way to end the book/series.  That’s all I had.

Twenty-six days later, I had 50,000 words which included Clarissa’s story and the beginnings of the ending of the book/series.  The book, like most NaNo manuscripts, needs a lot of work, and needs to be finished, but I’ve put the book aside and probably won’t work on it now for a year or more more.

In Adelle’s Time, the reader is there when Clarissa and Damian Gerard meet as adults.  Born only weeks apart in New Hampshire, they have a history, and have seen each other occasionally over the years, but they were quite young.  Now, as adults, the sparks fly!  The rest of their story is in Clarissa’s Time.

Clarissa’s father, Logan, the Duke of Muileach in Scotland, won’t let her go to America unless and until she’s wed, but Damian Gerard can’t wed her until he graduates from West Point (military rules) – so they wait.  Long distance relationships are hard, but eventually, their time comes – they wed in Scotland.

After a month-long wedding trip around the Mediterranean on Logan’s ship, the Sea Witch, the Grayson’s, including the newlyweds, leave for New Hampshire, where Damian Gerard must leave Clarissa with his family while he goes to Washington DC to assume his first post in the Union Army. He’ll also search for a place for them to live there.

In time, Clarissa joins Damian Gerard in Washington, DC and they have a family.  After 20 years, Damian Gerard retires from the Army and brings his family home to Lake Galloway.  There, he and his brothers will take over the family farm.

In the second part of the book, Janelle, now 70, and married to Richard for almost 50 years, has become a writer, penning the Grayson family history in a series of books.  In 1881, she starts the third book.

There are stories about and cameo appearances by characters who have appeared in books in the series, including Lord Statler, Theo, and Queen Victoria, and there are appearances by characters previously unknown.  I promise to keep the ‘begats’ to a minimum, and to present them in story format, but there’s a whole new generation of Graysons, and their relationships need explaining.

The actual ending of the book/series is, I believe, unique, and will be a happy ending.

I hope this book will be published in the later part of  2015 or early 2016.
